Upgrade Your Weapon for the Next level is a triptych done using the lithography technique. Here the artist draws parallels between the Virtual and the Real, by using Video Games as a point of reference. While a preliminary read brings up the idea of the need to upgrade oneself at every stage in life much like in video games; a more thorough inquiry moves the viewer’s attention to human behavior and contemporary evolution. He uses various elements as visual cues for the viewer. For instance in the first panel the man is shown wearing head phones and working on a laptop with one hand, while the other have mutated into a hammer. The body is shown to be restrained by ropes which are being used to control to the movement of the man. This kind of puppetry opens up on one hand our relationship with technology, and on the other our relationship with nature.
Subrat executes most of his large works in a multi-panel format. This enable him to ‘pour over’ his compositions between multiple panels. What one would normally view on a singular picture pane, is now floating across two or more panes. Keeping in mind this aspect of the work, some space is left between two folios while the work is being framed. This enables a visual movement for the viewer.
